At Distilia, we take pride in curating exceptional spirits, and our latest release in The Sins series, Envy, has earned an impressive 93/100 from Zucker und Zeste. This 30-year-old Springbank single cask whisky, matured in a refill sherry cask, is a true collector’s masterpiece.
Tasting Notes from Zucker und Zeste
Nose: A beautifully balanced combination of smoky, peaty aromas elegantly integrated with an unexpected fruitiness. The fruit is reminiscent of bergamot and yuzu peel with a hint of yellow fruits. Vanilla, butterscotch, and forest honey are also present. And a hint of fresh rye bread.
Taste: Peat again, but just as well-balanced as the nose. The equally present fruit now leans more toward ripe Amalfi lemon. The sweetness is still there, but not quite as voluminous. Instead, I detect a minty freshness and a light balsamic woodiness. Not “old” wood, though. For thirty years, the wood aroma seems surprisingly fresh. The fruit body remains present. That’s quite impressive. Equally impressive is the whisky’s oily mouthfeel.
Aftertaste: Very long-lasting, lingers on the palate with a minty freshness and a hint of peat. The fruity notes gradually fade, leaving a hint of butterscotch.
Score: 93/100
A Whisky Worthy of Its Praise
Zucker und Zeste describes this release as complex, perfectly matured, and incredibly well-balanced. The flawless integration of peat and fruit makes it a truly special whisky. Simply – sinewy.
