Adagio - Caribbean Rum 1973 | Schumann, Études Symphoniques - Variation XI
Inspired by Schumann's Études Symphoniques - Variation XI, this exceptional rum translates one of the composer's most profound and introspective musical moments into spirit. Half a century of maturation has given it an elegance, maturity, and contemplative character perfectly suited to the quiet intensity of an Adagio.
Distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2024, this remarkable rum matured for 50 years, before receiving a Sherry Cask finish. The vintage holds a special significance: 1973 is also the year of birth of Pietro Caputo, whose musical vision and selection stand behind this series. Drawn from a single cask (#88188) and bottledat its natural cask strength of 54.5% ABV, it was released in an extremely limited edition of just 127 bottles.
Its character unfolds slowly and intimately. Dark molasses, prune, and pipe tobacco form a warm and velvety foundation, gradually giving way to cherry, vanilla, and herbal liqueur. Like a half-remembered melody returning in tender, glowing form, each layer emerges with restraint and quiet intensity.
Bottled without additives and at full natural strength, Adagio preserves the character of a rum that has spent five decades in maturation. Its age, single-cask origin, and highly limited release make it a distinctive interpretation of Caribbean rum - a liquid reflection of Schumann's introspective musical language and the contemplative beauty of an Adagio.
