A full proof heavy Trinidad rum
The Caroni distillery, established in 1918 on the Caroni Plains near Port of Spain, Trinidad, achieved early success with cast iron stills. Over the years, it transitioned to Coffey stills and a column still. In 2002, the government’s sale of a stake to Angostura led to closure, causing public outcry. Luca Gargano, owner of Velier, revived the brand by acquiring remaining casks in 2004. The closure elevated Caroni’s status, making it a cult favorite.
