Dedicated to Basdeo “Dicky” Ramsarran, who worked at the distillery for 20 years, this small batch of six casks aged entirely in Trinidad & Tobago is one of the youngest vintages of this legendary distillery which closed in 2002. With an angels’ share almost as high as 80%, in every way, in terms of both aromas and flavours, this version takes pains to express the empyreumatic style so characteristic of Caroni. Nonetheless, avoiding caricature at all costs, it is also very exotic (mango), chocolate, spicy, floral and fruity (raspberry). A fan of long-haul travel, it takes us to the banks of the Ciron to admire the botrysized vineyards of Sauternes.

Dedicated to Dayanand “Yunkoo” Balloon, who worked at the distillery for 10 years, this small batch of six casks was selected on 12 April 2019 by Luca Gargano with the help of 26 die-hard Caroni fans. With an angels’ share as high as 80%, this version invites us to a constant battle between the hydrocarbon notes for which this spectacular, inspired and moving rum is renowned and incredibly intense fruity and floral tones. Worthy of a Shakespearean play, the tasting’s three acts teem with sequences each stronger than the next and bring the palette of aromas and flavours a feeling of timelessness.

Dedicated to Balas “Brigade” Bhaggan, who worked at the distillery for 14 years, this small batch of six casks aged entirely in Trinidad & Tobago invites us to discover Caroni in a more temperate light and a little less under the hold of hydrocarbon notes than usual. Enthusiasts, rest assured, however, although the intense, almost exuberant fruit and the ardently spicy and medicinal character of the flavour and aroma palette are undeniable highlights of the tasting, the DNA of this particularly archetypal traditional rum has not been changed completely. Tarmac aromas and flavours of smoked meat and bacon are proof of that.
