Karuizawa 1989 12 Year Old 61.3% #7410 - Kawachiya

Distilled in 1989, this Karuizawa single malt spent 12 years maturing in a Sherry Cask before being bottled in 2002. Released as part of the Vintage for Kawachiya series, it represents a single-cask expression from one of Japan's most collectible closed distilleries.

The whisky comes from Cask #7410 and was bottled at 61.3% ABV, retaining the strength of the individual cask. Only 440 bottles were produced, making this a notably limited release with a clearly defined vintage and cask provenance.

The whisky was released under the Karuizawa name rather than as an independent bottling. The combination of its 1989 distillation date, Sherry cask maturation, and 2002 bottling places it firmly among the historic Karuizawa releases from the period when the distillery was still in operation.

With its individual cask number, precise distillation and bottling dates, and limited production, Cask #7410 offers collectors a well-documented example of Karuizawa's original single malt stocks.

About the Distillery

Karuizawa Distillery was a Japanese whisky producer based in Nagano Prefecture, known for its single malt whisky and particularly its Sherry cask maturation. The distillery ceased production in 2000, leaving behind a finite stock of original whisky.

Its surviving vintage and single-cask bottlings have become important pieces of Japanese whisky collecting, preserving individual examples of Karuizawa's production from different periods and casks.
