Karuizawa 1994 Single Nippon Malt Whisky ex-Glenlivet Sherry Butt #2221

This Karuizawa single malt, distilled in 1994 and bottled in 2006, comes from the distillery's Single Nippon Malt Whisky series. Matured in an ex-Glenlivet Sherry Butt, it represents an individual cask release from one of Japan's most collectible whisky producers.

Drawn from Cask #2221, the whisky was bottled at a formidable 61.0% ABV. With only 204 bottles produced, this is a highly limited expression that preserves the character of a single Karuizawa cask.

The use of an ex-Glenlivet Sherry Butt gives this release a particularly distinctive maturation history, combining Karuizawa's Japanese single malt with a cask previously associated with the renowned Scottish distillery. As a Distillery Bottling, the whisky was released directly under the Karuizawa name rather than as an independent bottling.

Bottled in 2006 at natural high strength, Cask #2221 is a scarce example of Karuizawa's original stocks and a noteworthy release for collectors interested in both the distillery's history and its varied cask programme.

About the Distillery

Karuizawa Distillery was a Japanese whisky producer based in Nagano Prefecture, renowned for its single malt whisky and its use of Sherry casks for maturation. The distillery ceased production in 2000, leaving behind a finite quantity of original whisky.
