About the Distillery

Located at the foothills of Mount Asama, Karuizawa Distillery operated from 1955 until its closure in 2000. During its lifetime, the distillery produced heavily sherried, richly textured whiskies inspired by traditional Scottish methods while developing a character entirely its own.

Following the distillery's closure, remaining casks gained legendary status among collectors and enthusiasts. Today, Karuizawa is widely regarded as one of the most important lost distilleries in whisky history, with its finest releases regularly achieving record prices at international auctions.
