Karuizawa 1981 31 Year Old 60.0% #4961 – Shinanoya Private Cask 5th Anniversary
Distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2012, this Karuizawa single malt was matured for 31 years in a Bourbon barrel before being selected for the Shinanoya Private Cask 5th Anniversary bottling. Drawn from Cask #4961, it represents a single-cask release with a precisely defined maturation history.
Bottled at 60.0% ABV, the whisky comes from a limited production of just 228 bottles. The combination of the 1981 vintage, 31-year maturation, individual cask number and private-cask bottling makes this a particularly distinctive Karuizawa release.
Bottled by Shinanoya (Shi), the release was created to mark the 5th Anniversary of the Shinanoya Private Cask series. Its Bourbon barrel maturation also sets it apart from the numerous Karuizawa releases associated with sherry cask maturation, giving this bottle a clearly defined place among the distillery's single-cask bottlings.
