Tasting note
From zuckerundzeste.de
The Drouin shows a spicy nose, with hints of cumin and toasted oak, then the fruit opens up behind it. Pear and apple compote with some vanilla, citrus peel, a little furniture polish, and rancio (the aroma of really old spirits). With time in the glass, fresher notes are added. It smells elegant and mature, but then younger than it is. It’s amazing how much fruit can still be found in this Calvados.
Very full on the palate, yet also delicate and differentiated. The fruit marches ahead: again caramelized apple and pear. The citrus peel does not reach my palate. Then the spice kicks in again, but now it’s clearly peppery and cinnamon-spicy, with a little clove drumming on the synapses. Nuts still resonate in the background. The oily texture fits in perfectly, immediately pushing aside the minimal, fresh bitter notes.
The Drouin finishes extremely long with apples, caramel, and somewhat milder spices. The fruit lingers on the palate forever.
Score: 97/100
As with all of The Sins series, Gluttony shines through with an incomparable balance of fruit, spice, and depth. This undeniably rare Calvados is a masterpiece. We highly recommend it to those looking for the pinnacle of the Calvados experience.
