Following the glowing review of our The Sins series rum from Zucker und Zeste, we’re thrilled to share another fantastic review of Gluttony, our Calvados Christian Drouin 1964. This 58-year-old masterpiece continues to impress connoisseurs, and this time we have an enthusiastic tasting note from the French blog Le Blog à Roger, published on October 22, 2024.

Nose
A very creamy, indulgent nose where tarte tatin reigns supreme. Notes of brioche, puff pastry, rich vanilla, baked apples, pear compote, ripe banana, candied orange with dark chocolate, a generous helping of honey, and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, all underpinned by a noble woodiness that adds to its delicious appeal.
But nothing seems overdone; it’s very elegant, warm, and spicy with a lovely, slightly minty veil that refreshes everything, accompanied by a hint of light yellow glue.
An enormous orchard fruit marmalade, with caramelized accents, dried fruits, and a beautiful buttery touch… This one truly lives up to its name!
Palate
The texture is oily, rich, and very fresh, offering beautiful orchard fruits with a slight acidity, almost juice-like, accompanied by a lovely brioche, more spices like cinnamon, honey, and rich vanilla.
The finish takes on a more tropical profile with notes of mango, passion fruit, and banana, eventually giving way to a darker side with walnuts, bitter dark chocolate, wood, and tobacco.
The 47.9% ABV is just perfect, combining concentration, power, and sheer tasting pleasure.
Score: 94/100
